The Museum of Milton presents: Letters from Woodside
December 7 @10:00am
Ellen Richmond grew up at Woodside, just outside of the town of Milton. In the parlor of her family home, she married her first cousin, Brigadier General Stephen Dodson Ramseur, in October of 1863. Ramseur died at the Battle of Cedar Creek, October 20th, 1864, after receiving word Ellen had given birth to their child. Ellen saved her husband’s correspondance to her, all eventually published. There had been only one letter known from Ellen, according to Ramseur biographer, Gary W. Gallagher, until the Museum of Milton discovered two. Alyssa Veasey of Danville, Virginia, will portray young Ellen “writing” these letters. The original letters will be presented for viewing for the first time.
The Museum of Milton is located at 169 Broad Street, Milton, NC, 27305. For any additional information, email [email protected]. Event is free but donations are appreciated.
